About Mr. Simmons

The Math Teacher
This is my seventeenth year of teaching in Fort Bend ISD. I was at Garcia M.S. from its opening day until I moved to Sartartia seven years ago. While at Garcia I served as the Math Department Chair. Previous to Garcia, I was at Highlands Elementary. My favorite part of teaching is seeing the joy of understanding on the face of a student who finally "gets it" after struggling with a difficult math concept. Now I am focusing on teaching Algebra I, and it is my goal to have my students better prepared than any others in the district.
The Coach
I am particularly interested in academic competitions, and the teams I have coached have been fairly successful. Here at Sartartia, I have enjoyed being a part of the Sartartia MathCounts and Academic Pentathlon teams. I am especially proud of being the co-coach of the 2004 MathCounts team which won the Texas State Championship. This past year our MathCounts team finished 7th in the state. And our Academic Pentathlon kiddos won a slew of medals at the annual spring competition.
The Other Teacher
Over the years I have shared many of my teaching ideas with other math professionals through giving a number of presentations at national, state, and regional math conferences. I am also certified as an Intel Master Teacher and have given seminars and courses on integrating technology into the classroom.
The Family Man
My wife, Linda, and I have been married for 42 years. She is the librarian at Sugar Mill Elementary. Our daughter is a lawyer in St. Louis, and our son-in-law is a doctoral candidate in plant genetics at Washington University in St. Louis. They are both graduates of Texas A&M.
The Man of Leisure
My wife and I enjoy cruising Lake Conroe with our boat and traveling in our RV. We have explored almost every inch of Conroe's shoreline and have seen some wonderful wildlife, including a pair of eagles that are in residence. When we are traveling, we enjoy visiting state parks and wildlife reserves as I am a casual birder and enjoy seeing all the different birds. We also have a goal of visiting all the presidential libraries, and this past summer we visited the Eisenhower Library in Kansas. In the fall my favorite pastime is watching college football, and Mrs. Simmons and I go to all the Texas A&M home games (Gig 'em Aggies!).
