Supply List
Here are the tools and supplies you will need to have for a successful year in Algebra I. Always having your tools in class is part of our learning process, and I do not expect excuses. Please make sure you have these supplies and are ready to go the first time our class meets.
- 2 - Spiral Notebooks
- 1 - 2" 3-Ring Binder
- 1 - Set of Dividers
- Lined Notebook Paper (3-hole punched)
- Graph Paper (3-hole punched)
- 1 - Plastic Ruler (with holes to fit your binder)
- Pencils (mechanical preferred)
- Large Erasers
- Red Checking Pens
- Blue or Black Pens
- Graphing Calculator (TI-83+ or TI-84+)
Graphing Calculator
You will need a graphing calculator at
home to complete your assignments. We have a set of calculators for the
classroom, and your calculator will not need to come
to school. Our classroom calculators are the Texas Instruments TI-83+.
You will want to buy either this model or the TI-84+ which is keystroke
identical. Either of these models will serve you right through high
school. Keep an eye on the ads, as there are always sales at this time
of year and the savings can be significant.
Pencils and Pens
All math will be done in pencil - not pen. I strongly urge you to use mechanical pencils
and have plenty of extra lead. Too often wood pencils get dull and
stumpy, and then the writing becomes illegible. A good rule to remember
is, "If Mr. Simmons can't read it, it is wrong." The use of pencils
infers that there will be erasing -- you bet! Buy a couple of good
erasers to have with you.
You should have red checking pens
for grading work in the classroom. I do not want work checked with
sparkly pens (girls take note) or highlighters. There will also be
times when you will need a pen with standard blue or black ink.
